Frequently Asked Questions

How do I arrange to hire an instrument?

Hiring an instrument is easy -
you can either telephone us on 01727 846055
or complete the hire form online by selecting the instrument you want to hire.

You can then collect it from us on Saturday mornings at the Fleetville Community Centre, Royal Road, St Albans, AL1 4LQ, arrange to have it delivered using our FREE local delivery service, or, if you are no local, we can post the instrument to you.

What ID documents do I need?

To hire, you will need the following ID documents:

Passport or Driving Licence
Recent Utility Bill
Debit/Credit Card
Current Account Bank Details

What make of instrument can I hire?

Our hire stock includes instruments of various makes and models. As all trained musicians know, used instruments are very much as good as new ones so long as they have good maintenance. All our Hire instruments are serviced and maintained by us in readiness for rental to ensure they play perfectly.

How long can I hire for?

Hire is for a minimum of 3 months. After this, hire continues on a monthly basis for as long as you need it.

How are payments made?

The first 3 months' payment is made when setting up the hire and can be paid by cash, debit/credit card, or online using PayPal.

After the initial 3 months, payments are made on a monthly basis by standing-order for as long as you have the instrument.

Can I purchase the instrument?

This is not a hire-purchase scheme and the hire payments pay only for hiring the instrument.

If you do want to buy an instrument, we can offer advice and recommend places to purchase from.

What happens if there is a problem with the instrument?

General maintenance of the hire instrument against normal wear and tear is FREE whilst you are hiring. The various consumables of an instrument (eg. reeds, strings, cleaners, cork grease etc.) are NOT covered by this free maintenance.

Through inexperience many learners will at some time cause damage to their instrument, very often without even noticing how it has occurred. Damage is quite different from general wear and tear and the cost of repair is not easy to predict until the repair is completed. To support for our customers we always attempt to repair damage free of charge if the job is not too large, but where significant cost is incurred we have to charge you the cost of repair.

How do I insure the instrument?

For specialist musical instrument insurance we recommend Allianz Musical Instrument Insurance, however, you may find that your contents insurance will cover the instrument.

How do I cancel the hire?

When you no longer need the instrument simply return it to us.

You can bring the instrument to us on Saturday mornings at the Fleetville Community Centre, Royal Road, St Albans, AL1 4LQ, arrange for FREE collection if you are local, or you can post it to us to our mailing address, Office 156, 17 Holywell Hill, St Albans, Al1 1DT.

Who can hire?

To hire an instrument you must be a UK citizen, at least 21 years old, employed, with a valid credit or debit card and a permanent UK address. Individuals can hire instruments from us, but organisations cannot (eg. schools, colleges, companies, charities).
